Default Opening port 80&443 not only opens OWA but also Companyweb access?

Hi there, new to the SBS here.
When I redirect the wan ports 80&443 to my sbs server, users can open the
OWA by https://some.inter.net.adress/exchange.

However when I type in http(s)/some.inter.net.adress/ I land at the
"companyweb".
I think I dont want my companyweb displayed to the (internet)world.

I noticed that owa is a "child" of the default webpage which is in fact
companyweb.
Is there any way to open OWA without also publishing the "companyweb" at the
same time?
Maybe by redirecting OWA to a specific port? But howto?

So if you type in just your domain name from outside the company, like http://mycompany.com (or www, etc....whatever your FQDN is externally) you are arriving at 'companyweb'? and not the 'SBS Welcome page'? By default the companyweb should not appear without typing http://companyweb or http://companyweb.mycompany.local unless someone has messed with the host headers in the IIS manager.

Are you running in a single NIC or dual NIC configuration on the SBS server? Let us know and we'll walk you through assigning the right IP to listen on and the host header to set.

Thank you for your comments

You got it correct. When I type in http://127.0.0.1/ I land at the company
web. Single nic here, sir.
I dont have a domain for it, just an external published internet accessible
ip adress (which is in fact the router)

Before we get into changing anything, can you just doubly confirm for me that when you say "companyweb" you in fact MEAN companyweb? i.e. the sharepoint website set to show up when you type in http://companyweb from inside the office, and most likely the default webpage on everyones computers?

There is NO reason to open port 80. You don't need it for OWA -- 443 is all
that's required.

Surely we're not going to have that discussion again

There are facts, there are opinions, and then there are situations. All are valid depending upon the circumstances, but none are 'absolutes'. :)

Sorry Matt.

Actually that is a "Fact"

Port 80 is not needed to be open for OWA to work.
NONE of my clients have port 80 open.

And they all use OWA RWW OMA and CompanyWeb

How do they do it? They just learn to use https :)

If they can't be taught to use https
I create Meta Tag Redirects on their Hosted website like this
webmail.hughestax.com

If you go there it will redirect you to the https SBS mail site.
So no Port 80 open on the SBS box at all :)

Ahhh, yes.

But what you also said was "There is NO reason to open port 80". I assumed you mean for any reason. Were you just talking about in regards to OWA? Given that the topic wasn't really concerning anything to do with OWA, ports or security I assumed you were making a broader point of some kind.

UH? I was meaning a Broader sense!
Port 80 is Never needed to open on a SBS Box.
EVER!

Unless you run your own website on your Domain controller.
Which IMO is not a good idea.
But we won't go there again. :)

Some people like to run with scissors I choose not to :)

As much as I am straining to keep from entering a debate here...

Can we simply agree that that is your opinion and therefore should not be stated as fact?
