No DNS
i have an SBS2003 server I just setup. It has 4 xp pro workstations connected
to the domain and one xp pro system that is not connected to the domain. our
comapny uses a web site that contains a database that we enter vaious data
into. On all of the systems that are connected to the domain the web site in
question will come up and work untill we get to the data base part. If we
click on a record sometimes it will load and sometimes it will take all day,
literally, to load. if we get lucky and it loads then we have the same
problem after we enter data into the record and try to save it. if I use the
same website on the system that is not connected to the domain everything
works fine (this system connects to the same router as the server and the
other workstations).
My networks is setup as follows:
DSL cable from wall to dsl modem that is bridged with static IP address,
rj45 cable runs from the modem o a netgear router. the server and
workstations are connected to the router. The router is setup to do dhcp and
dns.
I notice that if I ping or tracert the website from a system on the domain
it cannot resolve the name. If I do ipconfig /showdns on the fqdn it
indicates it cannot resolve the name. I am only having this problem with one
website, the url is http://www.eacsweb.com/

You need to turn off the dhcp and dns on the router and use dhcp (and dns but hopefully that's already setup on the sbs server by default so you shouldn't have to do anything unless you've tried to manually change it) on the SBS server instead. Then you should work.
The workstations will all point to the server as their dns server at that point.

Re: No DNS
i had dhcp and dns set up on the server and nothing would work. i used the
internet and mail connection wizard and it would not work. I was trying to
set up a dual homed gateway on the server and as far as I got was one
workstaion that would connect to the domain and then drop repeatadly from it.
I used this kb article
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b/825763/en-us and used the
Broadband Manual N 2 3 option. After two days of fighing the thing I gave up
and configured everything manually using only one nic. I turned off dhcp and
dns on the server when i configurd everything manually. I've read several
articles in here that say you should use the wizards whenever possible,
that's great if they work or if you have a week to figure out why they don't.
In the end I went wih what I know. Although my system works about 99.5%
percent of the way it's supposed to it's sure better than nothing working.

Re: No DNS
Unless you've got some weird network configuration, setting up a dual-homed
SBS server should be fairly easy with the references below. The Wizards
really do work with SBS.
Turn off DHCP on the router (not strictly necessary, but you won't need DHCP
unless you are attaching laptops or other non-domain workstations to it)
Two Nics, a static IP address, ISA, router (general physical setup diagram,
works for ISA or non-ISA)
http://www.smallbizserver.net/tabid/...SA-router.aspx
Configure correctly, then run CEICW and select the services you want:
http://www.sbs-rocks.com/sbs2k3/sbs2k3-n2.htm
I'd suggest not using UPNP for the router setup (decline if CEICW wants to
use UPNP to configure your router for you).

I wasn't berating you for not setting it up properly. I was telling you what would fix your problem. The issue lies within your domain resolution (as in internet domain) on the domain computers (as in active directory domain).
It sounds like you have much bigger issues that need to be fixed though, as without dns running on SBS you are going to have nothing but various mysterious issues plaguing you until it's resolved.

Re: No DNS
I would suggest you give the wizards one more go
If they don't work, it's because something is amiss
My guess is you had both nics plugged into the router?? That won't work
You must have one nic and all workstations into a switch and the other nic
in the router
Both NICs should have static IPs and they must be in different subnets
Example
NIC 1 (LAN CONNECTION) connected to switch with workstation
IP: 192.168.16.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway: Blank
DNS 192.168.16.2
WINS 192.168.16.2 (WINS should also be running on the SBS server)
NIC2 (INTERNET) connected to router
IP 192.168.1.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1 (IP OF THE LAN SIDE OF THE ROUTER)
DNS 192.168.16.2
SBS Server should be running DHCP, DNS, WINS
There is a wizard on the server console called CHANGE SERVER IP
This will do much of this for you
Run the Connect wizard again, Choose "DIRECT BROADBAND CONNECT"
Answer the rest of the questions as needed

Re: No DNS
No, I did not have both nics on the same connection, talk about a rookie
mistake! I had the wan nic set to a static ip given to me by my isp, it ran
to a dsl modem that was bridged. from there i had an rj45 cable over to the
router. On the router i had it set to 192.168.1.16 with dns and dhcp turned
off. I enabled dhcp and dns on the server and insured my scope was correct.
All of the stuff i did the first time I did through the connection wizard.
For some reason the dhcp server was assigning ip's to the workstation that
were public ip's, something like 169.254.x.x, don't remember exactly. i got
one of the workstation to join the domain with the
http://servername/connectcomputer command. It would see the internal web site
but not the internet, additionally, it would lose connectivity to the domain.
At all times the server had complete connectivity, that is to say to the
internet and intranet.

The router should not have been connected to the DSL modem in any shape or
form if you were using it as a switch and not a router

Sounds like you selected the wrong NIC during setup (i.e. it thought your external nic was your lan...thus supplying ip addresses from that subnet)
(still don't quite understand that bit about the internet static ip from your isp being on the server nic since you've got a router in place. normally that would have been applied to the router and not the server in that situation wouldn't it?)

Re: No DNS
"The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved private IP
addresses in the range of 169.254.0.0 -169.254.255.255 for Automatic Private
IP Addressing."
The workstations assigned themselves an address when DHCP failed.
